Richard Kellner Speaking at LACBA’s Complex Courts Program on November 16th
LOS ANGELES – October 7, 2010 – Richard Kellner has been invited to speak at a Los Angeles County Bar Association program that features one of the largest gatherings of Complex Court judges in California. The November 16th event in downtown Los Angeles is being sponsored by the LACBA’s Labor & Employment Law Section, the Los Angeles Chapter of the Association of Business Trial Lawyers, the Association of Southern California Defense Counsel, and the Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles.

U.S. Air Force and Bureau of Land Management Sued Over Tragic Deaths
LOS ANGELES – September 20, 2010 – In a closely watched case in the Inland Empire, Kabateck Brown Kellner filed suit in U.S. District Court in the Central District of California charging the U.S. Air Force and the Bureau of Land Management with negligence in the tragic deaths of a teen couple in an abandoned High Desert military bunker in 2008. The case was brought on behalf of the teenagers’ parents. It was filed on September 17, 2010. Sherzer v. U.S. Air Force.

AUGUST 2010
Brian Kabateck and Mark Geragos Donate $200,000 to Loyola Law Center's Genocide Studies Program
LOS ANGELES – August 18, 2010 – Brian Kabateck from Kabateck Brown Kellner and Mark Geragos from Geragos & Geragos recently announced a $200,000 donation to Loyola Law School’s Center for the Study of Law and Genocide. The donation to the Center comes from a portion of a $17 million settlement by French insurance company AXA with descendents of Armenians who had life insurance policies signed before World War I. The Los Angeles attorneys started the Center in 2007 with a similar donation that resulted from a $20 million dollar settlement with New York Life, in connection with its failure to pay relatives of Armenian policyholders connected to the Armenian Genocide.

Over One Thousand Families Denied or Underpaid for Station Fire Claims
In the aftermath of last year's devastating Station Fire, most insurers were quick to compensate Southern California homeowners for losses caused by the August 2009 fire – one of the largest brushfires in U.S. history. Yet one company, Farmers Group, steadfastly refused to pay the claims of its policyholders, despite the fact that they suffered many of the same, if not worse, damages as other insureds.

Lawsuit Seeks Compensation for Property Confiscated During Armenian Genocide
Building on their groundbreaking work to recover insurance claims resulting from the Armenian genocide, the law firms Kabateck Brown Kellner, Boyajian & Associates and Geragos & Geragos in Los Angeles, and Cotchett, Pitre & McCarthy in Burlingame have filed a federal class action today against the Republic of Turkey and two of that country's leading banks to seek compensation for the property stolen by the Ottoman Empire during the Armenian genocide between 1914 and 1923.

Kabateck and Kellner Honored with Champions of Justice in Civil Rights Award at NAACP's Annual Convention
The National Association of the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) awarded Brian S. Kabateck and Richard L. Kellner of Kabateck Brown Kellner with its 'Champions of Justice in Civil Rights' for their groundbreaking work in combating predatory lending practices against African-Americans. NAACP General Counsel Judge Laura D. Blackburne presented the award at the NAACP's National Convention in Kansas City yesterday, July 12th, during the Clarence M. Mitchell Memorial Lecture Luncheon.

NAACP Dismisses Lawsuit Against Wells Fargo
The NAACP announced today that it is ending its lawsuit against Wells Fargo Bank, N.A. Since 2007, the NAACP has filed lawsuits against more than a dozen of the largest financial institutions alleging violations of the Fair Housing and Equal Credit Opportunity Acts and racial discrimination.
